Luz Divia Fierro and Elpidio (nicknamed Sandy and Pillo) run El Meson, a coffee farm in Acevedo, Huila. They inherited the farm from Pillo's father, Ángel, and moved there three years ago, planting 46,000 Pink Bourbon trees on what was previously unused pastureland.
They also grow plantains, yucca and sugar cane, and keep cows. Five workers stay on year round, with up to 15 pickers joining during harvest, and Sandy and Pillo make sure everyone is paid fairly and works in good conditions. Pillo handles all the processing, from washing through to drying.
Together they're committed to high quality coffee and honouring their family's legacy through the way they farm.
This is our second purchase from Sandy and Pillo, and expect many more to come. Expect a cup that's floral and juicy, with ripe peach and watermelon sweetness carrying through the finish.
